Timing

I found this in a artist's drawing book,
which has many clippings glued or just stuck into it.
I've not yet decided if I am ready to let the book go.
This book along with a shoe box and a drawer,
hold many a thought, dream, and creative expression.

The timing of this one had me falling into Mo's recent
"I Dream of a World Where Love is the Answer"...
and our Sunday Hike weekend before last...
and now, also, Dee's recent posts of Her Sister's Papers
(Sounds like a book title!  Dee~Please publish all the collages from her papers!).
I have nowhere near the amount of boxes of clippings
that she (Dee's sister and now Dee) does.
But I could.

Anyway, this came from a book titled:
Earth Prayers, edited by Elizabeth Roberts

Waterfall way up high

"O our Mother the Earth, blessed is you name.
Blessed are your fields and forests, your rocks and mountains, your grasses and trees and flowers, and every green and growing thing.

Blessed are your streams and lakes and rivers, the oceans where our life began, and all your waters that sustain our bodies and refresh our souls.

Blessed is the air we breathe, your atmosphere, that surrounds us and binds us to every living thing.

Blessed are all creatures who walk along your surface or swim in your waters or fly through your air, for they are all our relatives.

Blessed are all people who share this planet, for we are all one family, and the same spirit moves through us all.

Blessed is the sun, our day star, bringer of morning and the heat of summer, giver of light and life

Blessed is the moon, our night lamp, ruler of the tides, protector of all women and guardian of our dreams.

Blessed are the stars and planets, the time-keepers, who fill our nights with beauty abd our hearts with awe.

O Great Spirit whose voice we hear in the wind and whose face we see in the morning sun, blessed is your name.
Help us remember that you are everywhere, and teach us the way of peace"
By Helen Weaver (page 209)

Water in the creek, laughing all the way!

Light on grass
This world...

...can't get any finer!
I just finished this book:
How to be a Good Creature

It was a good read, certain aspects staying with me after wards,
filled with her perspective, which I've been considering.

Now I'm reading:
Grain of Truth
It is by: Ross Laird

I bought this book eons ago.
The title/cover caught my eye.
I liked the rough cut pages.
I had images of reading it in my my newly done 'studio',
while reclining in my refurbished platform rocking chair (bought in 1981) ~
which I had refinished...the wood decoupaged,
the cushions newly sewn in an artsy-funky way.
The chair, studio and promise of that kind of time is long gone.
But the book remained, so here I am.
So far it is interesting, but quite detailed and psycho-arty (which fits his bio).

So, while I am enjoying it (and plan to finish it), I'm not sure I'm up to
the psycho-arty mindset.  I'll have to read more to determine a final opinion.

May your days be filled with poetry and nature and reading.
And if any of that leads to growth, learning or pure entertainment...
well, isn't that grand?!

Practically Coast to Coast

AKA "From Her Home to Mine"

My Son and Bonus Daughter were here in town,
for the blink of an eye.  We were able to visit and eat and hike.
We took them to our trail of frequent hikes.
The place where 'one rock found twice' lives.
We all three looked for my old friend Rock, without success.

But, before all of that took place, they gave us our gifts for my recent birthday and J.'s Saturday birthday.  He got the fairly recent book The Hidden Life of Trees.
I had heard about this one on NPR a while back, so Yay!!

I got a huge Surprise!
I had told them about Dee's recent open house.
My daughter said they may go, but then I never heard more.
But, low and behold...they did go and then traveled across the country with a beautiful piece of her work for my gift!!  If you follow the link above to her post, you can see them there.
Here they are here, hiking our hills!

West Coast Us!
I'm still feeling pretty amazed how folks can connect!
I whole-heartily agree with Dee...
perhaps one day she and I will get to meet!

This is the cloth they chose for me.  It came with a story about when Dee finished it and how it was hanging in a window.  I thought that was pretty funny because I always comment to Dee about how I love her cloths in the window light!
It will be added to my happy wall of cloth...or to a window!

A Jude cloth peeks from behind!

I don't know yet what Dee's ideas were for this cloth...
but I love the lines in the sky and the sun? ~ moon?
It looks like heat waves to me, which is perfect for the land of
always somewhere around 80 degrees!
I also love the bits of constellations cloth peeking through the weave and
Dee's now famous 'house' motif...all bursting in the colors of Spring!
From her home to mine...can it get any better?!!

↜ ↝

Our hike included not only looking for Mr. Rock,
but seeing one of my often photographed open gate with locks!
There was only one lock on this one.
 ☺
Isn't that how it should be I think?!

One Lock
We also looked for and found some fossils.
The boy reminded me of an old childhood fossil story
and the girl shared her knowledge!
Ain't life grand?! (as my Mama used to say)

Cool Rock
Spring Flowers

Green grass and Blue Skies

Light
Brilliance
I never tire of these views.
I hope you don't either, since I keep sharing them!  lol

I could never tire of seeing these two,
I only wish I could see them more.

Today, on my way to a belated Birthday lunch,
I saw this gal riding down my street.
Dixie looks like a fun companion, don't you think?!

⥳   ⥴
May you enjoy all of your comings and goings in the upcoming days.

May you find happy surprises along the way.
May you treasure the time spent with those you love.

Feeding the Soul

These days. These days, how does one feed their soul?
How does one keep HOPE alive?
We return to nature,
where we feel small in the bigness of our earth.
We read to find connection,
to find what we need
*Altered photograph

We see the world through our heart,
intentionally framing all we see, looking for the light in all.

Log that held Rock, *see below

We look for old friends
again and again.

And when they're not right in view,
we look again...
we widen the circle,
we look closer and further.

And we walk together,
for together we are stronger

'In a time of destruction, create something: a poem, a parade,
a community, a school, a vow, a moral principle; one peaceful moment'
~Maxine Hong Kingston

We embrace the history, even as time marches on.

We seek balance and look for openings that will support us
during these days.

We search for this.

We don't give up.

We find our way around the roadblocks of life
We refuse to remain locked into things that are not working,
are unjust and do not serve us and our fellow man.

No matter how small what we are doing seems,
we keep doing it because that is what feeds us.

Today we went on a short hike to our regular trail.

We embraced the warmth of the sun, the coolness of the breeze,
the songs of the birds
and the fun of our traditions.

*We looked for my old friend Rock.
I look every time we hike this trail,
but many years have passed.

You first met Rock on my first find.
Then again for a second time.

And then again for a recap on the hike where I impressed the Forest Ranger
with my story of

We took many of our traditional two of us selfies.
They almost always have J.'s head partially cut off.
That's how we roll :)

May you find ways to move through these days with grace, humor and lots of love,
Take care,
N.

Last Week

Last week we were finally able to hike a neighborhood trail I discovered a while back.  It is actually walking distance from the house, but since we were unfamiliar with the difficulty of the trail, we drove over for this first visit.

*As always, click on photos to enlarge*

It was pretty hot, of course!  The sky was hazy at the horizon, but looking up...nothing but blue skies!

There was a lot of this crazy dried vine with spectacular round pods (?)  And of course, unlocked locks hanging around too!

DO YOU SEE IT?
HERE I AM!!
I happen to glance up on the hills edge and spy this guy basking in the sun. J. spies this guy in the photo below.  I am intrigued with just how well they camouflage themselves!

Previous hikers left benches created to take in the view.  And some sort of wild fruit.
Anyone know what these are?

At the summit there is another fence and gate post that keeps nothing out!
Beyond it there are a few memorials made by gathering rocks.  Hikers have left their messages written on the rocks or on the paper in the special box.

My message is kinda lame, but heartfelt.
I'm so grateful for the days I am able to hike with J.

I am full of gratitude for the small things and the big picture.
Thanks for coming along,
Nancy
