A Friend, an Owl and a Glue Book

Already drying up a bit, Owly still on the nest...one hawk circles...another day at the bridge.

But, today was different, as I was there with a dear friend. This is so different for me, as it is usually just me or J. and me. It is my sacred place, so intimate it feels to me...like an old friend. But today after a long catch-up lunch, my friend an I went to the bridge, so she could see the owl. It is always a good day when I see my friend (and Owly and Hawks).

It was beautiful, peaceful.

At home I did a lot of gluing. A lot. I'm working in different colored books and harvesting magazine images. Very good.

Today my favorites are the dog who lucked out by finding french fries out in the desert! haha 😂 and the butterfly girl because the elements all match so well and the grumpy cat's birthday party. Those poor kitties look like they are in shock at that attitude! haha

At the restaurant where we met today, I noticed for the first time that two of the pieces of art on the wall were very Glue Book-ish! I mean really...the patched backgrounds, the stencil like white additions and the addition of the bird or little cherub. So Glue Book!! haha

What do you like to do with a friend?

May you nourish long time friendships

May you share as needed

May you talk and laugh

3 Places

In going to check the river...I was shocked to see a large empty space. Where is my beautiful Cottonwood? The one with the yellow falling leaves...the one that photographs so well with the bridge, as it stands off to the side hugging it?

They had done some wood chip clean up, creating a circle of fresh raked dirt where we'd never seen one before. But, it was the changes the rushing water had made that surprised me. The missing Cottonwood will take some getting used to. A particular loss.

The river had gone down quite a bit since the rushing-roar of the Christmas rains. But, still a lot of water flowing towards the sea. A couple of successes in our Pooh Sticks games. There were people down in the riverbed - exploring.

We walked down the slight slope to the bank where the egret had stood to see if we could discover remains of the Cottonwood. All that stood was a piece of the trunk. The rest washed away. It was so hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that all of those branches were just gone. You can see it in in all of its glory in this post.

Before we went to the bridge, we'd been at the local protest. A much smaller group this time, perhaps due to less notice. Many signs reflected the outrage over the killing of Renee Good. Say her name. This one, while it presented as seasonal and pretty...it spoke what so many others have been saying.

Today, Sunday, had us visiting another park, #12. There were sustainable gardens with native plants, places for baseball and soccer, a climbing structure and lots of wide open room to run. We met a charming toddler who was gleefully happy to do just that: run, find rocks & a stick and generally be a two year old. He noticed J. with his cane and mimicked by walking bent over his not-quite-long-enough stick, using it as his own cane. He played hide-and-seek with his grandma, carried his treasured, found baseball and climbed on rocks. Hearing his laughter was a high point. Otherwise, we rated the park pretty low as there was not much of interest, the 'native plants' were not labeled in the learning garden. Of course the other perks were seeing a new kind of acorn, different from the ones we are used to, seeing a lovely purple Iris blooming and seeing a young boy playing catch with his baseball cap while waiting for practice to start.

These small moments of humanity help shift the balance a bit during this difficult time.

Across the road from the park are more of the bike/walking path that runs along the river. We checked out a tiny bit and made a plan to come back to explore it more. It is hard to see the river from the path, but maybe further along it is easier to do so. We'll see another time.

There were so many crows playing in the sunshine. There are enough trails and paths and parks to last a very long time of exploring. It has been nice to see new places...to get out again, to see typical people doing regular things. That's no small thing right now...not because there are not folks just going about their lives, because many are, many have on blinders. It is more because seeing this helps one not drown in the troubles of the world.

I added "courage" to the World Cloth. I think we need a lot of that these days. On the little loom is a Medicine Bag for an old friend, in the colors she likes: coral & purple.

Where do you find balance?

May you experience life's holes being filled with goodness

May you evolve with the changes

May you smile at the young ones and let hope rise

New Plan

"Ocean Blues, teals, earth greens and snowy white"...these are the colors that dear Carol likes. I don't usually lay it out here like this, but what the heck - she knows I'm making her a bag.

I dug through the yarn I have and found some great choices, except for 'snowy white'. I've used most of my white on the Holiday Medicine Bags, so I've just got a pinch left. If anyone has a strand or two of snowy white and wants to drop 'em in an envelope...I'll take it, with huge thanks. Otherwise, I'll make do, because I might really have "just enough" - which will be perfect.

I like these colors too, so this one will be super joyful to weave. The only one I'm not 100% sure about  using is the top right ball of yarn. I'm not sure about the purple in it, so we'll see. The others are just Grand!

Of course so many thanks go out to Tina and Dee and Hazel and Deb G and Liz and...well, I hope I haven't forgotten anyone. That pile on the wood board holds many gifts, but mostly the gift of friendship. I am grateful.

How do you get what you need or adapt?

May you give, receive and share life's goodness

May you have strongly woven connections

May you weave a good life

Perfect Timing

The last of the Blues CMB are planted (3 today - 85 total). I have the Winter Holiday colored ones saved aside for later in the year. I thought that now I'm pretty much empty-handed, I may be inspired to pull out the little loom. I figure once I start the motion, I may feel more creativity blooming.

I've been a bit dry in that department recently.

LINK 3:41 minutes

I've fallen in love with the brief nature videos of Mike Drew. It is out of Alberta, Canada, so the scenery is stunning and at 419 posted videos thus far, I should stay entertained for a while. I chose this one for today as I've been playing with black & white myself. Besides the gorgeous scenery, I love how his voice reminds me of the narration on nature videos from my youth. Additionally, I appreciate that the videos I've seen so far are all about 3+ minutes long. Great escape.

We found another foreign coin, a 2019 Jose Rizal PISO. So, again, I left it at the bridge. My secret hope is always that a young person will find it (them) and be excited by the treasures.

So many flowers...so little time!

There was so much jimson blooming!

From afar, this Yucca seemed to have the thickest central stem ever!

I had to zoom in for a better look.

Color...or not?

What do you think?

We walked to the fountain. It's been a while since we did this. It was joyous to see the grapevines lush and green and bearing fruit. You'd never guess this is in a business area of town.

I forgot to mention that we discovered the last time we were at the bridge that someone had dug up the sunflower. Who would do that? Go around the fence, off the trail to dig it up and??? Take it home? Transplant it? Strange.

While in the process of writing this post, I spoke to a good friend and discovered that I'd never made her a Medicine Bag...so now I will. This makes me so happy.

What is your Love Language?

May you weave a wonderful life

May you live in the flowers

May you move at a pace that suits you
