April 2026

Yesterday at the bridge...amazing clouds, nesting owl, nest protective crow...more mustard coming up, poor old toad shrinking and decaying - still on its back, lil hands on its chest...a few lizards come out for the shifting sun and the fallen river tree holds new leaves budding out...a stranger, for no reason that I can see, offers to take our photo together on the bridge, so happy birthdays and welcome spring.

Yep, I'm that elder out of sync with the younger generation! Not entirely, it is just that it occurred to me a few days back that it is my 67th birthday. Ah-ha! 6-7!! How could I not lean into it?! haha After all, I will only turn 6-7 once in my lifetime! We've been laughing and joking about this ridiculousness for days. 6-7 🫴🏼 🫴🏼

I was so happy to mail off a couple of envelopes recently. I was lucky enough to pass on those classroom books. They are from 2005-2006...which I find totally unbelievable. 20/21 years ago and I am still in contact with this special family. What a gift! These siblings are now young adults one living in Alaska and one in Spain in a study abroad program. Amazing!

As I've mentioned, I'm moving forward with "Brown" and some of the other color books. Now with great big thanks to Beth and now, Marti too...I have so many images to work with. I am thrilled! I can't wait to start looking & reading and then cutting and gluing. Thank you ladies!

Today's weekly drive to Mentryville again showed us a lack of poppies and lupines...but held the earth in layers - different colored grasses, California scrub brush, trees, mountain tops and a cloud filled sky...windows down, rain-soaked scents and plenty of bird song. Heavenly!

How do you spend your birthday? How do you say "Thank You"?

"If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is 'thank you', it will be enough" ~Meister Eckhart

May you enjoy

May you laugh

May you look to fun and nature

No Blue Skies Here

LINK 14:17 minutes

Bob's website photo blog can be found HERE

I've really been enjoying the you tube videos from Hornby Island, you again, you can find them here: HORNBY ARTS CHANNEL

There are some very special stories there. I watched this one the other day and became curious about black and white photos, hence the post title "No Blue Skies Here" (even though they were very blue today). This is not something I've played around with too much, but I decided to. So, when we went to the bridge today, I decided to 'try and see the world through a black and white lens'. I took some of the same types of photos I normally take so that I could check out the difference. I also tried to intentionally take photos that would present well as B&W's. I played. Here are the results.

As we reviewed the photos, we discussed how they conveyed a different time period that the color photos do. J. kept saying they looked "old" or like the "old west" the "desert". I noticed the contrast, line, light and surreal aspect.

The bottom cloud pic is included because it is such a great example of how bad my camera has gotten. You can easily see all of the spots, which are permanently on my lens. I usually crop out the really distracting ones after I upload pics.

The sun rays still look cool and places, like the cement platform over the river, look almost mundane as a composition of lines & space.

I leaned into the aspect of 'lines' even more, photographing the fence line, the power lines, the bridge railings and the tall towers.

I took a few 'tree' photos out of curiosity...how would the large shape look against the sky? How would the space between the leaves and the leaves themselves show in B&W? How would the shades of green show up? These scenes have been posted here  before. It is fascinating how different the absence of color makes them look. My much loved Cottonwood at the edge of the bridge still shines though!

After the bridge, we went to The Cheesecake Factory for a gift of cheesecake for our birthdays. Mine is today and his is later in the month. Thanks go out to son & wife for the treat!

I took this opportunity to play with 'city pictures', which is something else I never really do much of. I took pics of buildings and the small street lined with cars.

What can you do in a new way? How does it feel when you change things up like that?

May you expand the ways in which you see things

May you experiment

May you play

Happy Birthday

A new calendar page, a new photograph...

I chose a big grandson photo with my mama in it for my birthday month ❤️

Celebrating my birthday today, tomorrow...whenever, however I want!

This year I made a choice to make my birthday more fun than it has been the past few years.

This should be pretty easy to do, since the past few years have been...well, we know.

Me in my sister's wedding, just a couple of weeks over 22 years old.

That hair! Oy!

Today I will go with my sister to a favorite restaurant and choose from this MENU.

It might feel...normal.

Tomorrow I'll do something else that I want to do, because I can. What a luxury.

❤️

May you find ways to celebrate all of your days

May you be healthy and happy and well in all ways

May you shine

Descanso Gardens - Tulips and Books

Last week, I went to Descanso Gardens with my sister,
prolonging my birthday celebration another day!
Yay!

This post is just the tulips and some current reads.
My plan is to fire off a few posts, which have a particular idea, so I can share lots of photos!

I'm not good at choosing ~ I always see something in each shot!
This way you will feel as if you were there too!
It was glorious!
If this does not interest you,
why then just carry on!
I've a few far away friends I really want to share with, so
if you know me on FB - you may have seen some of these before!

*AS ALWAYS CLICK ON PHOTO TO ENLARGE*

I had never seen tulips like these...
so light and delicate...
and flowers 4-5 inches tall!
Some were heading towards their last days, still beautiful in their demise
They were stretching far, as the eye could see!
Shining in the sunlight

Candy Cane Tulips!

Ruffled edges, I'd never seen!
I love how you can see each stem!
I bought this beautiful book, filled with art and inspiration.
I read some of it and passed it on to my friend, healing from her surgery.
She loved it too!

I have been reading this book, which I've had for years...

My sister gave me this one, which I've been reading each night.
Happy 60th to me.

May you have days filled with flowers and evenings filled with good books!
