This Day

On the 21st, we walked at the bridge. It'd been a while. Things looked different, more bare land peeking through. We're looking forward to going again after the current storms pass through.

As for the storm, this is a big one here. A lot of rain and wind. A lot. We are fine. For those of you who watch news and wonder, we are in an area that has been getting flood/debris warnings, but really don't affect us here at home. So, we're fine.

On this day of Christmas (for those who celebrate), I’ve lit the green friendship/money candle once again and have the blinds pulled all of the way back to see our patch of gray sky. So, here I sit, listening to the wind whistle through the corridor, the crows having a conversation and light switch rain when it falls...on and off and pouring and stopped...

I plan on going nowhere and doing little. 🙂

I stumbled on to this video and got a kick out of it. "Midsomer Murders" is our favorite nightly watch these days, for the reasons Neil Dudgeon mentions. Storytelling that stands the test of time. We laughed at him doing the music with his hands...just like I do! I wonder how many others have these comforting rituals of preferred viewing and traditions of how that takes place? Do you have a special show/music? Do you have snacks and rituals involved in the way you spend down time? Isn't that nice?

I've got a Medicine Bag going on the little loom,  fun things to watch and listen to, two grandchildren made picture frame gifts with their photos included (not here on the blog though) and J. by my side...all things to be grateful for.

Back to the bridge of the 21st...

Even with the trees bare, some of the plants look like they think it is spring. Two of the tension wires on the bridge were unhooked. It had me thinking of a bra strap...with two unhooked eye-hooks, does it do its job? Mmm? More beautiful clouds and wonky contrails...sunlight on grass. I am wondering how green it will all be after this storm?!! It's already been looking green, just since the last bit of rain we got. The two plant life photos are one of our favorite scents on the trail, Coastal (or California) Sagebrush. Aren't we lucky to enjoy such a beautiful spot? Walking together, investigating the natural world and all of the while, me telling what I now call Swiss Cheese Stories (the kind where I forget half the details as I tell it!) 😀

As I move off from writing to other things, perhaps I'll listen to some great music again. I've already listened to this one the other night...but what a moment in time captured. I may just listen again today.

The 4th Little Pig found her home! Here are the beloved 3 Little Pigs pillows, created about 21 years ago.

Front and Back, removable in case there is a need of cleaning or replacing the pillows.

I received an email from my friend and the report was glowing. The children enjoyed working with the pieces very much. They spent time opening and closing the doors, placing the pigs behind the doors...this involved matching each pig to its corresponding home. There was a lot of conversation between the children as they sorted, mixed & matched and then did it all over again. I was so tickled learn all of this and to especially read: "They decided together that the wolf was "nice" and could play with the piggies."

We can always learn from the children.

I'd like to thank my friend, Lisa for accepting this gift, so long in the making and for being an open-hearted guide for these little ones. The full circle of this experience brought all of us so much joy.

This sun, from the Placerita trail pretty much says it all. It has been so hot, even if today cooled down to 80 degrees. The plants are from the school where the pigs/wolf/pillows now live. I spent a long time visiting with my friend and getting a tour of this old 'home' of mine. A lot had changed in the years since I'd visited there, but the warm and inspiring feeling was still alive. What a treat to have a friendship and connection that holds so much history.

It was a lay low at home day, so the video and the links below provided my Beauty of Nature time.

More info on Altamont Gardens HERE

Her channel is HERE

She is located in Monterey, CA and has so many videos to explore. She also seems to visit Ireland each year (Marti). What a great solution when you want this beauty and are not out and about yourself.
The video I posted here today worked well for me as it is someplace I'll never get to myself - so that's a treat, she talks a bit, but it is not super intrusive, the crunch of her footfalls on the gravel make one feel like they are walking along with her, and it seems her attention falls to many of the same things mine does (how convenient!)...plus you can pause a video anywhere. This cactus & succulent show and sale video had all of those elements too, along with the most unique plants!
At the 3:56 time stamp...what is this? haha The variations of the Lupines (5:25 timestamp) were so beautiful and so different from SoCal. The amazing Handkerchief Tree (16:43 timestamp)...something I've never heard of. Isn't it beautiful?

How do you get out, when you can't get out?

May you find so much beauty in the world

May you carry this beauty with you for the long term

May you share it as you go

Outdoor Life

 More from yesterday's Nature Stroll...

One of the first things we saw were these stumps. Looking at them, I was stumped! how does a tree grow within a tree? What am I missing here? I can imagine how the smaller 'volunteers' could push up against the main trunk...but how does a younger growth become fully incased within the main trunk?

The edges and the cracks in the pavement held dozens of sunflowers. They were everywhere!

We chuckled at the fact that just the other day we were commenting on the fact that there was much fewer mustard plants this year...then yesterday it was everywhere!!

I didn't chuckle at the two very large off leash Rottweilers, which galloped towards us, while their owners laughed from way back on the trail: smile, laugh, "Oh they're friendly" haha, smile, chuckle, "They won't hurt you". I put myself on the other side of J. and his thick wooden cane. I got slobbered on and a large dog nose pushed up against me, but I was grateful we did not get jumped on. Grrr. Sigh.

We inspected seed pods and flowers and berries...

There were rocks, brick...and a place to sit...

What a beautiful day!

The story continues...I made the "4th Little Pig". She's adorable! You met the others recently HERE. I was also super excited to find this little lucite drawer so the pieces will have a home and the children will learn how to respectfully care for these small additions to the 4 storytelling pillows. I plan to give this part of the set to her next week. I'm also hoping to get a photo of the pillows too. We'll see.

Sunday at the bridge. It was a low-count lizard day...only 5. But, we saw the crows and hawks(?) in their nests again. It is so hard to believe how close they nest to one another. The nests held more than one bird. Plus, there was another adult crow in the connector right nest to the one holding the crow nest. It did not appear to have a nest in it...but there was a bird for sure. Was it an adult partner? We don't know. It is still hard to tell if there are babies or only adults.
Whoever it is that was home at the bridge this day, it was very exciting to see.

We walked to the fence break and then decided to go down the hill to see the massive pruning job that was done. There were so many trees just drastically topped off. It felt different being down there...lower than the trail, lower than the wires, within the riverbed trees...a different view of the bridge.

There was something to see every where we turned...

I wonder what today's walk will bring?

Where will you travel to next and how will you travel?

May you travel old paths

May you traverse new paths

May you keep going
