Gorgeous

This late afternoon - evening, while heading home, we stopped at the bridge...

What was gong to be a quick peek, ended up scooping us up into a walk to the fence change. It was so gorgeous.

What a gift to be somewhere we know so well, made equally amazing by shifting the time of day.

It was busier than we expected, but that made sense at 74°. Bikes, rollerblades, walkers and 3 men with a drone. We watched the crows flying home for the day. I feel so lucky.

Enjoy the photos...

What happy surprise have you had when doing something out of your norm?

May your open heart and soak it all in

May you experience amazing reflections

May you do something different

Crow & Sky

🐦‍⬛

LINK

When a good story grabs you!

We had rain all day and then some clearing, making for a glorious sunset! What more do we need?

I put the two quilt patterns in the Apartment Building "pantry". There are ladies here who quilt, so pretty sure they'll be gone by tomorrow. Poof.

May just one or two small things be enough

May they be enough to keep things in perspective

May they be simple enough to remind you of small joys

When there are no answers, look to the sky

Look to the sky for wonder and hope and love that knows no bounds, no bounds

Go North Old Gal

I was lucky enough to head up North last Saturday
to visit friends & former sibling students and their family.
These children I once care for as infants and young toddlers are now 10 and 12 and both amazing human beings.  I feel so blessed to have the relationships with them and their parents continue for all these years.
We still share a bond.
We enjoyed a good meal and a nice walk.

Some of you may remember the beautiful butterfly post from years passed.
The butterflies had already traveled on, but the gardens, trees, smells and ocean views were as lovely as always.

The trip through one of my favorite valleys and up the coast was alive with spring green, bright sunlight and our sparkling blue-green ocean.
Breathtaking!

I wish I could bring you along on such a glorious day.

Anyway, here is a short photo journey.

A tiny hummingbird nest rests on the lights under a an awning on my friend's patio.
Now, that's a tiny house!!

A neighbor's garden, already a riot of color.

Don't these look like stitches?!!
AKA a Kantha Succulent!

See that short trail in the ocean?

Here is a closer view.  I loved the brightness of the green in the dimming light of day.

 Sunset on the water.  Sizzle.
This weekend it is supposed to be about 94 degrees!
It's only March, I'm not ready for summer.

That's what SoCal looks like!

All sunshine, all the time.

Monday at work, I got to watch these two doves smooching it up in the tree by my car.
So sweet.

May your coming days be filled with this much love, friendship and beauty!

Giving and Receiving

The front
This is the front of the stocking you met in my last post.
This little baby got a snowman just like his parents.
And there are snippets of at least one fabric from both mom & dad's stockings.
He'll have to discover those when he's older!

Weaving
Cloth
These two became a gift for my co-worker, for one of those Secret Santa things.
I chose to work with her 'favorite colors' & her love of Tinkerbell, while keeping in mind that she is always cold and hikes the local mountains with her family.
A warm scarf and a medicine bag.
Shell on one side of the medicine bag
The other side of the medicine bag
Like last year, I went with my sister to the Winter Solstice Meditation.
We were offered raw rose quartz, a candle was lit.

The word coming to me for 2015 was 'open'.
Some of you may remember last year's word was 'flow'.  It served me well throughout the year.  Now I will consider 'open'.

I left my word tag on the tree among many others
and I will carry my word with me throughout 2015.

Here we go...

I'll leave you with a gift I was given.
Last Sunday, after returning home from a farewell open house for two
long-time, dear friends on the eve of their move North...
The sunset sang a most glorious goodbye!

I hope this last week of the year is filled with creating and connecting
and ending and beginning anew.

A Day

Friday sunset

This isn't really what this post is about.
But, then maybe it is in some respects.
I've had the desire to just go away.
Somewhere.
Probably by car though.

Escape

Today was a day of remembering, celebrating and visiting with family.
Today was another funeral.

Maybe another funeral is part of the desire to escape.

My sister and I arrived early enough to visit the grave sites of our parents.
As we drove to them we noticed an unusual sight.
A coyote lounging in the sun among the grave markers.

Is that really...???

Yep, it is.
We have never seen this before during any of our many visits to the cemetery.

Then...wait...we spy another one.
Then a third.

When we speak to the groundskeeper, we learn that recent building nearby have displaced these creatures.  We learn that there are about 3 or 4 living among the deceased.

They seemed not to care at all about the many visitors moving among them.
But, we did see a warning sign later!

The service was beautiful.
Grandchildren reading the words of others.
Children sharing their own written words.
All were remembering and celebrating a life very well lived.

The following chant (not attributed to anyone) really touched me.
It was read by one of the grandchildren, who started with the first phrase. The group read along in an every other fashion.
There is something very powerful and connecting about choral reading.

We Need One Another
We need one another when we mourn
And would be comforted
We need one another when we are in trouble
And crave help
Or when we are in the deep waters of temptation
And a strong hand might pull us out

We need one another when we would accomplish
Some great purpose and cannot do this alone

We need one another in our defeats
When with encouragement we might strive again

And in the hours of success, when we look for
Someone to share our bliss

And we need one another when we come to die
And would have gentle hands prepare us for the journey

All our lives we are in need
And others are in need of us

All our lives we are in need, and are in need of us
We best live when we bring to others
Our understanding and solace

Today was also the day to share these two treasures with my cousin.
They once belonged to my favorite aunt, his mother.
I've had them since she passed away.
I was seven at the time.

Tonight I took the time to write him an email that held the story of their meaning to me.
He doesn't have many of her personal belongings.
We talked about that once.

So, today it was time to share.

I love the marking on the top.

After treating myself to a little Chinese food tonight,
I read these two fortunes that summed up the day.

Lend a hand to one less fortunate than yourself.
You are eager to share yourself and your possessions.
As always, I am grateful for your friendship on the journey.

A Little Night Music

This post is dedicated to Valerianna of RavenWood Forest.
If you have not yet seen her work, take a look...she's amazing!
Now that I know her mystical, dreamy, powerful work...
I think of her when the sky calls out in a watercolor wash.

Here are some more sky photos for you to enjoy.
(Yes, I know my last post was sky pictures too!)
I seem to notice the sky so much while on my daily commute.
It's a wonderful view!

This is the first photo I take as I head home.
The mountain and sky bring Valerianna to mind.  This mountain peak is really far off in the distance, but I've zoomed and cropped so you all can see the view that caught my eye.
As I get on the road, the mountain stands tall among the gray sky and mist.

Mist turns to rain.
The sky shifted between soft and muted and firelight brilliance.
The expanse and magic remained huge.

Then drama entered!  Stark and strong.
Do you see the eyes hanging on my windshield?

I love this view of the long road toward the mountain.
This is a favorite part of the commute for me.  It's where the traffic, power lines, storefront congestion, sidewalks, and people all thin out.
It's more rural...more peaceful...more me.
When I get closer to the mountain is where I may be lucky enough to see a rider out for an evening horse-walk.
It means I'm almost around the mountain to home.

By the time I'm rolling around the mountain, the sky has become a lovely shade of sky-blue-pink.
And as I've done this whole week prior to Mother's Day,
I think of my mom.
