Today: Home

I was home today. Doctor appointments. A tune up...more scheduled.

A physical, a covid booster, pre-op...mammogram...You know, the regular.

Anyway, being home allows me to post here. I've posted a lot recently.

I will not stop to consider why or if it will continue. For now, it just is.

I chuckled at "Are you human?" Sometime one can wonder!

Anyway, funny they use snarky humor to get folks to care for themselves.

It was hard to capture the depth of the sky the other morning.

I commented on this over at Jude's...how the clouds parted, sharing a bluer sky with Magritte like white puffy clouds peeking out! It was really cool!

We may get a bit of rain in the next few days. I never count on it until it is happening, but I plan my driving for it, just in case.

Also mentioned at Jude's - this book and newspaper clipping, still tucked inside since 1974! That was so my mom. J. and I both re-read them. This time around I really noticed the language in the book and how it was so 'of its time' and the illustrations/ideas...same thing, so 1963 when this book was written.

I've pulled out these two, with an idea percolating. The weaving was made as a 'coaster' for my mom, to match her tan and white living room colors (and then some). I plan to repurpose it with this leather (deerskin from our local Pow Wow years ago). I have a few ideas already, plus another today...should I add some other colors into the weaving? Give it a less mono-color look? Maybe some green, blue? It is complete as it is, but who says you can't had more?

May you look beyond the clouds

May you embrace the old, as new again

May you do things your way

Fall Adventure

More trees, different day...a view over the back fence. The Ash trees in full golden glory!

A quick jaunt out to the grocery store ended up to be one of beauty!

A favorite nearby street celebrates season. Each year, the leaves are glorious. A recent day had the sun shining through these leaves. Now they look almost spent. It won't be long before these trees will be skeletons in the sky.

The variety of trees catches my eyes.

Once in the parking lot, we hear the call of many, many crows!
We love watching them play.
This group was very loud!

Then on the way home...Fall - Fell!

We sat at a red light, leaves swirling, hitting the car windshield like hail!

What a splendid Autumn Day!
Before we turn towards home, I spy a Hawk soaring near the far off pine trees behind the local hospital. Turkey Vultures often circle in groups above the hills behind the hospital. But, today it was a hawk. 🙂
That is the hillside I've mentioned to grace in the past. I'm known to count the Turkey Vultures as I sit at the red light!

We watched a bit of the 'dog show' on Saturday. I am not, nor have I ever been a purebred dog kind of gal. There have been years and years where this whole scene has disgusted me. So elite, so much money involved, so not me. And why do the women Have to wear dresses? Ugly conservative outfits worn to run around a ring...why? No one wears a artsy-fartsy flowing outfit that would move in the breeze as an Afghan's fur does or the ears of a Basset Hound. Humph. It is like the Hallmark world, for dogs. But, every now and then, I get a kick out of seeing the breeds, the antics of their prescribed, mandated run around the ring and forced posing. Seeing breeds I've never seen before adds to the quirky fun. As an added bonus, I often think of my mom and how she laughed at, got a kick out of the movie "Best in Show" (which I still have not seen). However, yesterday's surprise (to me) visit by Steve Kornacki really cracked me up. Do people take it THIS seriously? Why yes, yes they do!

You can watch his brief gig HERE

Here are three breeds that caught my eye.

The Bergamasco ...just look at that coat!!

The Neapolitan-Mastiff ...so huge, so much extra skin!!

The Pumi ...look at those ears! A look of "Whimsy" is a required trait for this one!

~~~~~~
Today, I awoke to the news that J. had recorded one of my all time favorite movies:
SMOKE SIGNALS
Yay! We plan to watch it tonight, together.
I am looking forward to this, especially considering our local Pow Wow has been cancelled once again this year. So, I'll get my Fry Bread movie version this time!! Not as tasty, but it will have to do. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I've put all of this here before, so you can just bear witness to my excitement at being able to watch this one again! You are welcome to watch too!
Last night we watched:
These 30 minute episodes are just right for wetting your whistle on some really beautiful spots. We've been to Alabama Hills (Lone Pine, HWY 395 etc.) in the past, so it was fun to see a locale we know well. In this episode, they talked about photography in The Blue Hour. We plan to look for that effect in the near future and I've been wondering if I accidently captured some of that magic already!
I have two things to read soon. One is a book, written by an elder friend. She is the one who passed recently, the last one in a group of 4 Ladies, my mom and her friends.
The other is an article in a recent Smithsonian Magazine
It is about Indigo.
*I'd be happy to mail that article off to one of you*
May you keep learning
May you see things as interesting
May you soar
We Went Planting
I kept forgetting to change the calendar this month, but finally got it done, slipping in at month's end!
Little one toddling a year ago and Big one, when he was born.
So much time has gone by.
Yesterday's beauty while heading out to my sister's house for the traditional day after Thanksgiving meal.
With 4 finished Holiday colored CMB's completed, we went out to plant them today
...and ended up replanting as well!
This adventure today brought the current count to:
CMB: Made: 60
CMB: Planted: 60
CMB: Green warp: 26
(if I've got all my tally marks right)
🪡
Okay, off we went...
First off, there were a zillion tiny birds singing!
Then, there were views to hold you and take your breath away.
The just pure amount of SKY...the clouds, the scent on the air, the perfect temperature...all of these things amaze me and fill me.
sigh
A hawk was seen on the drive in. The crows were calling.
There were two cars in the parking lot.
But, before I could consider where to plant a CMB, something catches my eye.
🪡
A Story, of sorts...
Today while at the 'Mother's Day' spot, I spied something in the tree. Walking closer and closer, I discover that yes, indeed...it is an old Community Medicine Bag!! It was completely tangled up in the tree, the 'free' tag and message long gone...the fibers fuzzy from time spent in the elements, the fading a marker of time.
I'm an odd one in things that creep me out, like how fuzzy this had become, the wondering what had happened or if something was inside of it. It barely resembled one of my CMB! To see it now, as is, knowing it had a life without me. 🙂
I think this is the first time one of the CMB has not been found/taken.
I'm still processing this.
Here was the post in October 2021
Please do pause here and go there, as it is quite amazing all that has transpired in just over one year.
sigh
Anyway, here it was new, fresh ready to go out into the world.
As it was hanging then...
and today...
It really was something to think of the time and weather this little bag experienced! No wonder it was so tangled, with its tag missing. I did not have a new tag with me, but I chose to rehang it on an almost bare tree. It actually stood out a bit more than the photo shows. Also hard to see, the tree has new leaves coming out. So, a rebirth for them both. I'll throw extra tags in the car, in case we pass by it again.
On the way out, I planted two CMB and marveled at the crow vocalizing loudly on the old bones tree.
I was far more intentional in my planting, choosing places that were clearly visible...making these Holiday themed bags more likely to go home this season!
We moved on to the trail head where there is a charming bridge, a man who plants oaks and a spot or two being refurbished with native growth. We've hiked here many times. The views are grand!
I truly love this time of year.
Things that were merely a dream last visit, are growing now. And some of the baby oaks are thriving too!
Here I am waving to all of you! ❤️
As usual, I took way too many photos of the gorgeous blue sky, the golden dancing Cottonwoods...the fantastic space around us!
I had planted the other two CMB on my way in, as no one was around to see me. Very obvious in my planting!
They were still there as we left, even though a few hiker/biker/dog walker had passed by.
I do hope they are found.
May you return to places you love
May you continue to give
May you embrace it all
November Dwindles
 ~~~~~

There has been a lot of hanging on lately. Some more fierce than others, some by mere fingernails.

My friend, the one who has perfect book selections and perfect timing for sending them my way...also sent this grand video. Love it. Thanks have been profusely shared already!

Hang on little tomato...

This story was on the news recently...this story of a three year old boy who became very, very sick from covid. You can read it HERE. They started a GO FUND ME page for him. How could I not donate? Additionally, this hospital was near my mom's bookstore...the one my dad was in. This young boy - close to home. I hope they are able to raise the money they need during this difficult time.

There is no such thing as completely empty.

Often it just takes some time for ideas to form.

I've got one brewing right now.

Hopefully, more to come on this.

Tornado skies, with torn cloth borders. Glorious!

I happened upon THIS ONLINE COURSE coming up in January and did some poking around for more info. You can search images for "louise bourgeois insomnia drawings" yourself to see some of her creations.

There will be this one regarding Racism in December. Who knew this city had all of this being offered!

There were so many others in the THINGS TO DO category. I guess it surprised me.

I'm such a homebody now, but it is nice to know things are out there, if one should choose to venture out.

I know I have posted this on the trail in the past, but I had a conversation with someone and was reminded of "Eleven" - an old favorite of mine. Here is a LINK if you'd like to read it again yourself.

Season!

A link over a CJ's place reminded me of the night sky photographer I found a while back. So many amazing photos HERE.

Trust Time...anytime! It continues to be hard to settle into this time of reflection, but I show up & try. What else can one do? Bits of thoughts below:

11/3?: What if I put my Trust in you? How will you respond? Will you put your trust in me?

11/17: Sometimes trust can fly!

Hope and Trust are interconnected...how they lean into each other.

11/23: One must trust in Trust, must have an element of hope then. (I obviously have come full circle with these thoughts! haha)

Total Trust!

Looking at both sides of the "beachy" Medicine Bag gift. I loved doing the finger-crocheted additions. I love the texture they add. The yarn feels so good in my hands. What a blessing.

Sand ~ Sea ~ Sun ~ Stones ~ Seashells ~ Seaweed

Thanks go out to Hazel for the Warp Thread. This is the first time I've used it as a warp and I really enjoyed the non-stretch quality!
