2025 ~ Harvest Moon

LINK 4:42 minutes

A lil project for J. Simple. Not busy.

He's picked the colors and specifics.

A word will be added, in Purple.

The stitching on each side looks unique.

I commented at Jude's this morning about the fire in Central CA, about 4 hours away (Gifford Fire).

We opted out of a walk at 'city park' today, since it is 106° and the sky was hazy (again).

Came out of the grocery store and spotted a new fire immediately, much closer to home (Canyon Fire). Just since getting home, it has jumped up to 600 acres. There are many evacuations and lots of smoke. However, it is far enough from our home - so, WE ARE OKAY.

I can't help but think J. picked a good color for this August. He wanted the "Dundee" stamp to remain showing. 🙂 I think I have 2 cloth diapers left, one pure white and one indigo dyed. This one was dyed in tea. We like it.

How do you keep it calm in life?

May you keep it simple

May you be prepared

May you live well

Paused

In all of the many, many times I have visited this medical facility since 2021, and Today I notice this plaque. Interesting. I stood there and reflected on the 100's of medical professional and the support staff that keeps a place afloat. It really is astounding. We get caught up in the unfair costs, the sometimes lacking care, the dislike of even needing to go there...but do we Thank those that keep the doors open? The custodial crew, the security team, the receptionists and techs and on and on. Today I considered this and thought Thank You.

I was at the Bridge absorbing the environment, planting a few gifts and catching up with an old friend. We had a very good conversation, appreciated by both of us.

I forgot to add the "Free! Enjoy 🙂" tags on them. Rats. I saw a family of 4 find one and look it over, but they left it, probably not sure if it was for taking or not. I'll throw some tags in the car and add them next time (if they are still there).

I walked under this tree, and when I turned around to head back...a big beautiful red tail  Hawk, sitting silently. I stood under him for a very long time, appreciating. He looked at me, turned his back on me and flew the tree next to this one. But, he stayed. I wondered if this was the same one I saw the other day? Do Hawks learn faces like Crows do?

I watched the "Children's Moon" doing nothing,

I witnessed Owl's eyes in the bridge,

I caught the Sun's rays on the wires,

And I was filled up.

This young man arrived, one day old now...a welcomed gift during the holiday season.

What do you notice when you've slowed down? What anchors you? What is your North Star?

⎈ ✹

May you find ways to be still

May you find ways to 'talk' to the animals

May you share in celebrations often

April 8, 2024

I checked online to see what time my area would be able to witness the partial (for us) eclipse. It was right then. Right then was the time. So I stepped out onto the patio and pointed my camera towards the sun, without looking at the targeted sun. These are the shots I got to mark this day. I know they are not great, but neither is my camera, nor my planning (too much going on right now, so no special glasses or travel to the perfect spot etc.). I experienced it in the moment. My moment.

There were no crowds cheering, gasping, clapping, Oohing or Ahhhing. There were no weddings taking place...just me on the patio in the sun/moon event that is our world. Our world.

Our world that comprises of so many peoples and ideas and feelings...endless...as many as there are people, even when we come together.

Anyway, I have no idea where I'm going with this half-formed idea, so just enjoy , however you like.

Today in the car, I listened to this story about Rwanda. Then I came home to see the video above.

Refugees, Genocides, Immigrants, migrants, survivors, perpetrators...what a brew. Reconciliations...

Yet, we all live under the same sun and moon (NOT a new thought here, but it IS an eclipse day). How can so many come together to bear witness to today's event, but at other times...(voice trails off)

I commented about this book over at Jude's yesterday, which really got me thinking about my related memories to this charming book and its main theme of things that go together, focusing on "you and me" or "me and you".

Some Things Go Together

So, these thoughts just keep swirling around...going together, coming together...what makes that work, what makes it a challenge...round and round...like the earth, sun, moon...like our experiences, shared and otherwise...

I'll leave this mess here for now, since my eloquence gene is hiding somewhere...but, I'll reappear with something that makes more sense.

I hope if you were able to view the eclipse, it fulfilled the dreams in your imagination.

May you disappear and reappear

May you circle around many times

May you do good in our world

Still Looking

 ...for that silver lining...

My gut said something is still not right...in the vein of the beloved Madeline book.

“In the middle of the night Miss Clavel turned on her light and said, ‘Something is not right!’ ”

*image link

Although it was morning, not the middle of the night. I started my car and got a strange message on the screen for the radio. Thankfully, I had read up about car batteries and alternators...and spent 17 years with my EX, a 'car guy'...time spent looking under many a hood with him. So, I trusted my gut and took my car to my regular shop.

Yep, the alternator was bad, which had I tried to drive like this would have got my new battery wrecked and me stuck somewhere along my commute route. Not a pleasant thought at all.

sigh

So, I keep looking...

...and I watch an auto shop cat in the early light, doing a bit of after breakfast grooming...

...and I study another Row of Trees

...and I study the cat

...and say good morning to the moon

I notice that cat finds bliss in this unusual home. Can we do the same?

Home is a welcome place to wait...and weave...

May you hang on like heck

May you find an element of bliss

May you trust your gut and be right

A Saturday Post

 This week...

Lit up wires upon arriving home...

LINK

I found this video and watched much of it. I'm putting it here to get back to it or if anyone else wants to check it out. A different kind of weaving! I've found some of these kinds of videos very relaxing. Building with few tools in a natural environment, cutting slabs from a beautiful fallen tree, and now "How to weave an obelisk with Dave Jackson The Stick Smith". I'm amazed by what folks can do. Watching is good enough for me :)

Morning Moon...

A week, or so, of Lunch Breaks...

A spiral stamp turned into a happy doodle. Spiral Mandala style?  I wrote down the Metta from Grace's Blog...the one she attributes to Sharon Salzberg's version. I considered the words, on my own, on my lunch without much back-knowledge. I would change it to self first, because how can we do, act, feel for others when we are in need, when we are hurting or broken or anything really. It's that whole "put on your own oxygen mask first" theory. But, on that day, on my break...it came out as others first. As I type this now, I consider if there was not an underlying reason that I put others first while writing from memory as best I could?

I have white out. I will change that.

The Metta article I linked states "may your mind be at ease". This IS important. But, I would think the Whole of you, you "living with ease" is equally important. After all, I wouldn't want a mind at ease if my body was not!

NOTE: Some of the quotes were from stories listened to on NPR. "Story Corps" and this one with Andres Dubus III, his book: "Such Kindness". Both had more very good words/ideas that I could not write down fast enough, so going back for another listen will be good.

Through the week, I took 3, 5, 10 repetitions of in-out, over-under...a very slow going. But, I am close to the end of the weaving part. I chose to use the dyed string in the middle, as I had used it on each end (that is hard to see in this picture). I like doing it this way so when I stitch the sides together, I can hide & secure the ends by weaving them into the middle weaving. It works. I am liking these colors for the warmth they give.

May you find many ways to just going

Today

 ~~~~
We left with the moon this morning, which became many other shapes, trying to avoid capture.
Can you find the moon among the dots or within the squiggles?
Taking photos through a morning windshield, an adventure for sure!
Nope, those are not stars, but morning mist on a well-driven windshield!
Nope, those are not extra moons, but streetlights and camera trickery!
From dots to squiggles, an electronic delight!
Further down the road, the sun came up in the most beautiful way!
~~~~

Today I really liked THIS!

Please do go have a look and check out the links at the bottom too.

It had me thinking of so many of you all.

The weavers, the word lovers, the ones of the sea and poetry.

Do read & look, I believe you'll enjoy.

~~~~~
Today's musical journey...
Crosby, Stills, Nash: "Carry On"
Crosby, Stills, Nash: "Southern Cross"
Joe Walsh: "Life's Been Good"
Dire Straits: "Sultans of Swing"
Ricky Skaggs: "Highway 40 Blues"
Bonus: Ricky Skaggs and Albert Lee: "Country Boy"
~~~~~

May you see what you can see (see, see)

May you travel well

May you explore

Bits-n-Pieces

Last finished book (above), which was passed along from Dee.
Thanks again Dee, I loved it!
I'd like to check out other work of hers.

AS ALWAYS, CLICK ON PHOTOS TO ENLARGE
If anyone would like me to pass it on to you, let me know.

 ↑ Fall at the local grocery store ↑
It seems that pumpkins and gourds have become far more interesting of late.
When I was a kid, Fall was orange pumpkins. Period.

 Imagine my surprise in seeing this notice on the bulletin board here!
Who here could possibly be expecting?!
I came to find out that it is our leasing agent that will soon be a mom.
I got a kick out of how the folks that signed up, included their unit #!
I erased those here of course.
It also came to be known that two of the women who live here were fighting
over who was going to give the shower and so on.
Geez.
We had a little visitor on the porch railing recently.
It was wonderful to see some wild(?) life again.
Besides the crows, precious few other birds, a few neighbor's dogs
and a few squirrels now and again...
It is pretty sterile of living creatures here.
We sure miss that.
It turns out that two of the women here are fighting over this guy too!
Double Geez

Yet, the gray cat on the bulletin board, well no one wants that one!

Triple Geeze

There is some humor in living here.

 I finally...finally completely unpacked another box and found the tiny carved baby!
Hooray!
Mother and baby, now passed on to a friend.

Freida at the Pow Wow
She is everywhere these days!

 Fall = Pow Wow to me.
This year we didn't stay as long. It was a bad pain day.
But the fry bread and drumming was amazing!
Love the variety in the drums.

 Oak leaves on the way back to the car

 Last full moon from my patio (porch) - see the side of the building on the left and the lights from the next door parking cover? I zoomed in on the bottom photo.
It is so hard to not be able to see the sky without getting dressed,
walking down the hall and out two exterior doors...and don't forget your keys or you won't be able to get back in.
I can safely say, I hate this part.

The bother factor added to being outside is difficult.
J. has kept our indoor jungle thriving
(even if it is not the same as being out!)
Don't they look happy?
Their is a newbie to the plant tribe, on the far right in a wood-looking planter.
It was a gift from a friend and most welcomed into the environment.

That's all for now.
I'll post the fire stuff next.
I warn you now, I'll be whining and grumpy ans so, so grateful.

May you find things that make you all of that and much, much more!
