MOVING ~ Three Steps Forward
...and one or two steps back!
This moving, is hard.
My stomach was acting up a bit, so I was home today.
Great, a weekday to make phone calls.
AT&T...25 minutes later, speaking to someone in another country
(so some communication barriers)
...after going through EVERY step to turn my service off,
she tells me to "call back to turn it off".
After a tooth pulling, Who's on first? type dialog...
I finally get her to explain that they will shut it off the day you call.
So, I hung up to call back on the appropriate day.
The girl who made a plan with me on FB to buy my washer and dryer...
messaged me back to say that, NO she needs a stack unit after all.
The first girl never even replied after I answered her questions.
Really? My gosh, at $25 buck each, let's just get it done!
Southern California Edison stopped their: Pick up your old, used
energy hog fridge and give you $50 bucks program "years ago" I was informed.
Trying to sell a few pieces of antique furniture...
so far the two shops I've had conversations with have not emailed or called me back.
I have no idea where we stand on this.
These pieces need to go, yesterday!
All things posted on FB have had zero luck.
Place a few misc. items out front for FREE!
All went really quickly, except the infamous
This chair I've tried to get rid of several times before,
with no luck.
Today...the FREE sign worked!!!
45 minutes later it was gone!!!
I was SO EXCITED!
And then it was BACK!
Someone actually picked it up and brought it back!
Who does this?
My neighbor thought it was super funny.
Nice gal. Not.
I won't even go into that.
There is more, but I've even bored myself tonight.
Man, I'll be glad when this is done.
So, now for something far nicer.
After years of work and procrastination and whatever,
I've finally finished and mailed the cloth to
Wendy and her Travel Show for Children!
The last thing I added was one of Jude's moons.
Can you see the dark rust spots leading to it?
They represent the highway from years back...
On my way home from my job North, my Big Commute.
after rounding a slight curve, at a slight rise in the hill...
I see the full moon ahead of me...
Blood red and I swear it was sitting
on the end of the highway, where it met the freeway.
The moon was low and huge and the most amazing color I've ever seen.
I actually gasped and cried
It was that truly awesome
I added a ring around the moon,
because I've seen some amazing one recently.
ONe just a couple of weeks back,
the biggest, furthest from the moon ring I've ever seen.
And also, because that sweet little lullaby,
"I will draw a ring around the moon..."
When my daughter was a toddler, her super nice and cool
Gymboree teacher would close the session with a small group experience
It involved a lit candle in the center of the circle
and he would play his guitar and sing a soft song.
Sometimes, he'd have us move to gather by the piano
where he would play and sing this song.
I'd hold my girl and sway gently back and forth to the music at the end of the night.
It seems like a lifetime ago, yet this song, this image of us together,
invoked by this simple ritual have lasted this lifetime.
I remember that girl.
Gifts for Wendy's kids or Wendy or...
May your days allow for moving past the crap and into the sweetness.

I'm off to eye surgery (again)
Different surgery, which he made sound very easy
So did the first doc
Wary, but no time to dwell...
house in total disaray
Books get picked up Sunday and I still have to finish sorting mine
VA pick-up soon, clothes to sort
Millions of things to do
Well, maybe hundreds
Money to deal with
Stuff, stuff, stuff
No time for tired,
but I'm sleeping like the dead at night.
I hope this eye thing goes well
I'll try to get back with more interesting stuff here
I've something to share

I've not been here
But, I've been here
We found a place!! We've also been drowning in the undoing of
19 years in one place and 60+ years of living.
So, we're packing and tossing like mad!
Today alone, I went through about 5 of those photo storage boxes.
This entailed looking at each photo and deciding if I wanted it (hardly any) or if I should put it aside to send on to others (children, family, friends).
I shredded the rest...about 3 trash bags full.
I relived my whole adult life.
The good, the bad and the ugly.
I relished in the sweetness of my children's young years and
the days when I was a mother and we were a family of 4.
The bittersweet was practically unbearable.
What happened to those days, those people?
I took photos of photos too.
I low clutter way to remember.
Only 3 of the adults in this photo are still living.
I really miss the others, including our
Helen (standing, back center) who would have been 95 today.
Am I into that phase of my life?
I miss the grown children too, who are off and away, living their own lives,
no longer a part of my daily life.
My mom and I at my son's baby shower.
He'll be 39 this year.
Where do the years go.
Back and forth through the years I went.
Through the lives of loved ones.
Touching on those I no longer see
Just like aging, this moving/clearing thing ain't for sissies!!
And there were books to pack or place in the donate pile.
Books I meant to read and never did.
Books belonging to my mama, my children...my heart.
Many have to go for lack of space in the new place.
How to choose? How to decide which ones are
worthy of the small amount of shelf space/
Reliving my life through book choices or gifts or hand-me-downs
I was surprised to see this old packing up pic from 1984,
when we were moving back to California.
There I sit, packing up books!
I always pack books as one of the first things.
I'm glad to
be packing while caring for young children (at least not in my home)
I wish I had time or resources to sell some of the vintage books
or other belongings.
I'm giving away a lot!!
Usually, I'm one who tries to earn money when possible.
It's hard that it is not possible.
Other things to go through:
Cloth and memorbillia!
Goodbye mama's sewing box, goodbye old artwork or materials
goodbye extra cloth, goodbye books, books, books
Goodbye lifestyle I've known
Hello new chapter...
and new life.
Note to self
May your days be filled with worthy work.
memories and something to look towards.
